This virus that attacks children, especially under 5 years of age, it usually manifests itself with some symptoms such as fever, flu, sores (ulcers) in the mouth and rashes on the palms of the hands and on the soles of the feet.
Faced with this worrying panorama, Dr. José Elías Cabrejo Paredes, a specialist in family and community medicine, as well as a professor at the Graduate School of the César Vallejo University, explains the origin of this virus.
“The hand, foot and mouth virus is a very rare and old viral disease that usually occurs in schools, day care centers or communities that do not have water and sewage services. Since March 2022, outbreaks have been occurring mostly in the northern part of the jungle or in areas with a lot of heat and humidity,” the teacher mentioned.

Although children are the main affected, this virus can also impact the health of an adult without adequate hygiene habits and can even be fatal for a person with a disease such as diabetes, HIV or corticosteroid treatment situations.

The doctor. Jose Cabrejo provided some recommendations that we should take into account:

- Maintain continuous hygiene and cleanliness.
Finally, it is important to remember that this disease is a mild condition that can last between 7 and 10 days from its appearance and, to date, there is no known specific treatment to combat it.
