Australia has changed its Covid entry requirements in a move that should make travel there cheaper.
While the country still requires tourists from the UK to be fully vaccinated to enter, it has dropped the requirement for arrivals to take a pre-departure Covid test before they fly to Australia. The PCR tests arrivals needed to take to enter Australia before April 18 had to be paid for by passengers themselves, at a cost of around £50 per person.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s page on Australia entry requirements says: “From 18 April 2022, travellers do not require a pre-departure Covid-19 test to enter or transit Australia regardless of their Covid-19 vaccination status.”

However, British arrivals into some Australian states will still have to take lateral flow tests and isolate at their accommodation until they get a negative result. Each territory has its own rules and New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland are among the territories that still require arrivals to take a rapid Covid test and isolate until they get a negative result.
Fully vaccinated tourists from the UK can travel to Australia. Those who are unvaccinated need a valid exemption to enter Australia and may have to quarantine for seven days if they are allowed in.
Children aged 11 or under don’t need to be vaccinated, neither do children aged 12 to 17 if they are accompanied by a vaccinated adult, although in some states 12-17-year-old unvaccinated arrivals may have to quarantine. All arrivals into Australia by air must complete a digital passenger declaration form.
