After weeks of torrid heat, with almost no rain, Spain awaits the possible arrival this week of a DANA, also known as cold drop. An Atlantic front, cooler than the current one, in the north and east of the peninsula can cause a DANA to begin to form for Wednesday. This episode could cause cloudiness, with chance of showers and thunderstorms, which could be locally strong in mountainous areas such as the Pyrenees or the Iberian System. The news of its possible scope, with half the country on alert due to heat, gives hope to many to get rid, at least for a few days, of the suffocation of this summer.
The delegate of Balearic Islands, Maria Jose Guerrero, is cautious about predicting the arrival of DANA, although it is true that it recognizes “a change in trend” in the weather in the Islands for next week. For the moment and until Sunday, August 14, stable weather will predominate in the Balearic Islands: the heat will continue, with maximums around 35ºC and 36ºC and minimums between 20ºC and 25ºC.
Statistical models cannot accurately confirm next week’s scenariobut, while this week is considered “very dry”, next week (from 15 to 21) and the following (from 22 to 28) will be “normal”, according to Guerrero, so it is not ruled out that a shower will fall , although its possible intensity is unknown at the moment.
