President Alberto Fernández affirmed this Friday in Santa Fe that some sectors “are in charge of making the current economic situation even more difficult” but maintained that “not even the will” of these groups “is going to bend the decision” of the national government and ratified that “it is not going to stop” public works or housing construction throughout the country.

Accompanied by the Ministers of Economy, Serge Massaand Transportation; alexis warriorand together with the governor of Santa Fe Omar Perottithe Head of State led this afternoon the act of launching the railway service that connects Cañada de Gómez with Rosario after 45 years of inactivity.

“That obligation is not going to stop, as well as any of the 5,000 public works that we are building. The 100 technical schools that we are building throughout the country are not going to stop, nor are the 120,000 homes that we are building. Our duty is with you, not with others”

“Clearly we are going through difficult economic times and some are in charge of making it even more difficult,” said the President during his speech, in which he added: “Sergio (Massa) knows, like me, the obligation we have with each one of you“, within the framework of the first official activity that both share after the assumption of the former deputy in office last Wednesday.

“That obligation is not going to stop, as well as any of the 5,000 public works that we are building. Our duty is with you, not with others,” said the president.

In this context, he said In addition to fighting for the unity of the governing coalition of the Front of All, one must “fight for the unity of Argentines” and valued the railway as an element of community and economic development.

As in his last public appearances, the President insisted that in the sphere of politics “not everything is the same” and contrasted decisions such as the nationalization of the trains taken by Juan Perón in the 1940s with those taken “in the years 90” when “someone thought that the trains were too much”, in relation to the management of Carlos Menem.

In this sense, he said that in his Government the railway is understood as “a very important means of transport to develop communities and the economy.”

“Cristina (Fernández, during her presidency) called for a tender to do this,” she recalled in reference to the reactivation of the branch, noting that “whoever succeeded her said that this should not be done” in reference to former president Mauricio Macri.

Fernandez also stressed that “As Perón, Evita thought, as Néstor (Kirchner) and Cristina thought, I believe that the train is needed in all of Argentina”, so that “it ends with the disintegration of the country and so that it unites us”.

The Head of State also vindicated the search for the unity of the FDT and went further: “We must fight for the unity of the Argentines.”

Fernández, Massa and Guerrera arrived by plane to the city of Rosario, from where they traveled by train to Cañada de Gómez, a half-hour journey.

According to the official reportthe formations have a capacity for 900 passengers and, potentially, about 2,000 passengers per day will be able to benefit from traveling between the Rosario Norte and Cañada de Gómez stations, a journey that takes 2 hours and 10 minutes and has intermediate stops in Correa, Carcarañá, San Gerónimo, Roldán, Funes and Antarctica Argentina.

Perrotti: “Branch that opens, region that progresses”

The governor of Santa Fe thanked the President and the Minister of Economy for the decision to “reactivate” the railway system in the country and assured in the act that took place in the Santa Fe town of Cañada de Gómez that “a branch that opens, a region that progress.”

Perotti, who participated in the inaugural act of the train together with Fernández, Massa and the Minister of Transport, Alexis Guerrera, highlighted in his speech that “the reactivation of the railway workshops generates new jobs” and said that “this speaks clearly of a strong decision by the President to accompany the railway and this decision is fundamental for those of us who believe in production and work and for those who invest”.

“The cargo does not go on this train, but the work and effort of our men and women from Santa Fe travels, so that it reaches our ports and thus Argentine work reaches the world,” added the governor.

Also, he considered that “Today we are taking a fundamental step to unite and once again have that direct link with a much more environmentally friendly transport”.

“The decision of the President and Sergio (Massa) is welcome for the support in the budgeted instances for works like these of many resources,” he stressed.

In this sense, the governor recognized that the reactivation of the railway system “always excited many who spoke at events and meetings, but when the decision had to be made to support the railway and put the resources, only one was left: this president Alberto Fernández” .

During the presentation, three long-distance cars were shown, a locomotive and a generator car that will provide 16 weekly services.

The cost of the ticket between the main stations is 120 pesos, and up to the Roldán station, which is halfway, 60 pesos. Tickets can be purchased 24 hours in advance, through the company’s website or at the ticket offices of both terminal stations.

To reactivate the service, a replacement of sleepers and fixings, and level crossings were adapted to provide higher levels of safety to the operation. The enhancement has an investment of $ 1,000 million and its execution allows reestablishing an accessible and quality means of transport for the citizens of the province of Santa Fe.

History

The Rosario-Cañada de Gómez service is the first commuter train that was established in Argentina outside the AMBA at the end of the 19th century, and was closed by the military dictatorship in 1977. When democracy returned, Ferrocarriles Argentinos proposed to reactivate the branch but did not it was fulfilled In the 1990s, the Cañada de Gómez station of the Miter branch, equidistant between Córdoba and Retiro in CABA, was permanently closed. In 2015, the National Government called for a tender to renew these roads. Later, the administration of former President Mauricio Macri annulled it.
