Rita Ora made quite the fashion statement on Monday night’s season premiere of The Voice Australia.

The British pop star, 31, divided opinion with her futuristic purple frock, which featured ruched detailing around the bodice and tight long sleeves.

The midi-length dress, designed by Sportmax and priced at $800, also boasted a racy thigh split and scoop neckline.

Rita matched the striking ensemble with purple eyeshadow and accessorised with a gold bracelet, hoop earrings and stiletto heels.

Rita’s daring look quickly became a point of contention among fans, with some critics branding the dress ‘unflattering’ and ‘gaudy’.

‘Rita needs a stylist… what’s with her Lycra dress? Eyesore and not flattering at all. Looks like a 12-year-old made it,’ one viewer commented.

‘Glad I’m not the only one baffled by what she’s wearing…’ responded another fan.

Despite these unfavourable reviews, Rita did manage to win over plenty of fans with her avant-garde ensemble.

The Hot Right Now singer was left stunned by The Voice Australia contestant Danny Phegan’s stellar blind audition during Monday night’s premiere.

She was also baffled by the 45-year-old’s very Australian turn of phrase when he used the slang term ‘fair dinkum’ following his powerful performance.

‘Fair what?’ asked the perplexed English singer-songwriter. 

Her Australian counterpart Guy Sebastian then explained the well-worn Australian phrase meant ‘seriously’ or ‘honestly’.

Rita then butchered her own attempt at using the expression, saying ‘I fair dickum [sic] love singing,’ to the amusement of her fellow judges.

‘I fair dickum love you,’ she added, pointing at Phegan, seemingly unaware that her accidentally R-rated version of the term wasn’t quite right.

‘We’ve got some work to do, haven’t we,’ joked Phegan about their language barrier.  

Rita was also confused by another term uttered by the singer: ‘I wanna give it a crack.’ 

‘I wanna give it a crack’? she asked, before someone explained to her it meant ‘giving it a go’.

‘You know, I can’t understand a word!’ Rita said, still baffled by Phegan’s heavy accent, before adding, ‘But luckily music has no language. I’d love you on my team’. 

However, he opted not to go with the I Will Never Let You Down hitmaker, instead picking Keith Urban as his coach.

‘I thought on the way up here… if Keith turns I’d love to say G’day to you. Thank you mate,’ he said.

The father from Walla Walla wowed the judges with his acoustic rendition of Niall Horan’s This Town.

Eventually judges Keith, Rita and Jessica Mauboy all turned their chairs. Only Guy was left unmoved by Danny’s performance.
