The social organizations allied to the Government, which are grouped in the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy (UTEP), carry out today a new march for the day of San Cayetano, that left this morning at 8 o’clock from the church located in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of linemen and that it will reach the intersection of Avenida de Mayo and Avenida 9 de Julio. This year’s motto is “peace, bread, land, shelter and work”.
This date is foundational for “the Cayetanos” -as is known Evita Movement, Barrios de Pie-Somos and the Classist and Combative Current (CCC)- because on the same day, but in 2016, they marched together for the first time and continued to do so, with the exception of 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. These three groups are represented in the ranks of the national government and are an important support base for the president. Albert Fernandez.
“Six years ago, the popular movements in which we workers of the popular economy organized ourselves sealed a historic unity. Today we mobilize from that crystallized unit in our union, the UTEP”, they wrote in the official account this morning, during a day in which they usually show your convening power and also press for your schedule.
This year, the demand will be to promote a law with “concrete proposals” for the popular economy. The project announced by the organizations has ten chapterswhere the main claims are the creation of a Ministry of the Popular Economy and the promotion of the universal basic salary.
“Faced with the agenda of the concentrated sector that bids for particular interests to the detriment of the majority, speculating and emphasizing without resigning anything, we are in the street to impose our agenda that bids for the interests and needs of those from below”, they emphasized in Twitter and continued: “In a context of persecution of organizations, we continue to strengthen unity, deepening the organization and fighting for peace, bread, land, roof and work”.
This year, the tension with Kirchnerism escalated in the wing of the UTEP that has an anchor in the avoid movement, after the vice president Cristina Kirchner demanded that control of the social plans be taken away from them and exclaimed without naming them: “If Evita saw them, mommy!”. This sector, which has differences with terminal K since the macrismo, instead maintains a good harmony with Fernandez, who stood by them even as frictions increased.
Meanwhile, the relationship with the sector of the Government that responds to Cristina Kirchner is more oiled in the wing that refers to the social leader John Graboiswho is also a member of UTEP and who threatened this week to leave the Frente de Todos, by increasing his distance from the policies promoted by the President after the landing of Sergio Massa as Minister of Economy, Productive Development and Agriculture.
Esteban “Gringo” Castrowho is the general secretary of UTEP, was the one who called today’s activity and remarked for this Sunday: “Without popular power there is no social justice.”

For his part, the head of Barrios de Pie-Somos and also Undersecretary for Integration Policies, Daniel Menendezmaintained that this march “represents the search of social movements to be protagonists in the reconstruction of Argentina” and “thus expanding and guaranteeing rights in all corners of the homeland”.
Meanwhile, the other weighty leader in the triumvirate, Juan Carlos Alderete, who is the national coordinator of the CCC and also a national deputy of the Frente de Todos, He stressed that they expect “a very large mobilization” for this Sunday “because the needs of the people are many”.
“We understand that we are in a very difficult scenario, but we are going to continue. We accompany the Frente de Todos on the basis of a program that was the one that the majority of the Argentine people voted to defeat the macrismo, and get out of the economic and social crisis,” said Alderete, who in that sense expressed: “With that conviction, we are going to demand that urgent measures be taken that are on the way to fulfilling that program.”
Meanwhile, from the leadership of the Evita Movement, Gildo Onorato raised: “We are going to march in defense of the projects that dignify the work of the popular economy throughout the country.” He also said that this is done to give a message to the political leadership and to society as a whole. “We continue to raise the urgency in the treatment of proposals that dignify the work of the popular economy,” she indicated.
