The Shire of Denmark will host a celebratory occasion subsequent week to thank its volunteers for their contribution to the neighborhood.
The Denmark volunteer appreciation celebration occasion can be held on the Denmark Surf Life Saving Club on June 18.
“We want to recognise the dedication of those who are involved in voluntary service within the Shire of Denmark,” shire neighborhood improvement officer Rosie Arnephine stated.
“The volunteer appreciation celebration is an opportunity to pay tribute to the many individuals who have contributed hours of service to our local community.
“It is important that we acknowledge and celebrate our volunteers and the impact they have on our community.”
Ms Arnephine stated the volunteers’ response to the February bushfire highlighted their very important position locally.
“There are too many contributions to single out just one, but the recent bushfire is one event which really showed off the importance and the efforts of all of our local volunteers,” she stated.
“Whether they worked tirelessly during the incident or helped to rebuild and heal in the recovery phase, volunteers from every group, club and organisation you can think of pitched in to help.”
According to the 2016 census, volunteering contributions in Denmark are virtually 10 per cent above the nationwide and State common.
“The amount of time, experience and skills that our volunteers contribute is at the very heart of our community’s success,” Ms Arnephine stated.
“Volunteering is important to Denmark because it provides many social and economic benefits to our community.
“It saves on resources, especially in regional communities like ours where social programs and affordable services are limited.
“Volunteers help to fill these critical gaps in services to meet local needs, while building social connection and community values together.”
