The Minister of Economy, Serge Massawill designate this Friday Gabriel Rubinstein as Secretary of Economic Programming, a sort of deputy minister who has the role of liaison with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and multilateral organizations, among other powers. Definitions are also expected in the area of Energy and the Knowledge Economy.
Rubinstein worked until today as a private consultant in Economics and Finance. His firm, GRA Consultora, is one of the economic analysis powerhouses consulted by politicians and businessmen. Regarding his career in the public sector, he was a representative of the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic during the administration of Roberto Lavagna, between 2002 and 2005.
In the private sector, he served as Executive Director of Buenos Aires Stock Exchange and as General Coordinator of Estudio Broda. According to the website of his consultancy, he was also a lecturer on issues of Economy, Finance and Risk Rating in Argentina, Brazil, the United States, among others. And he is the author of articles in newspapers, magazines and specialized media. He is the author of academic papers and the book “Dollarization, Argentina in the Global Village”, published in 1999.
“The urgent and important thing in Argentina is to end the fiscal imbalance, improve internal and external credibility (important from the political point of view) to strengthen reserves and maintain responsible indebtedness” (Rubinstein)
“The urgent and important thing in Argentina is to end the fiscal imbalance, improve internal and external credibility (important from the political point of view) to strengthen reserves and maintain responsible indebtedness,” he had written on his Twitter account last Monday, already with Massa chosen as successor to Silvina Batakis in Economics.
“Under these conditions, inflation could start to stabilize at reasonable levels. Otherwise, the hyperinflationary risk will keep knocking on the door, and getting stronger,” she had warned.
It is not the first time that Rubinstein is close to joining the Government of Alberto Fernández. At the end of 2019, during the transition between the presidencies of Mauricio Macri and Fernández, the economist William Nielsen He was among the candidates to occupy the Ministry of Economy. Negotiations advanced and Nielsen came to contact collaborators for different positions, including Rubinstein, with whom she worked on a par during the Lavagna administration. Finally, Martin Guzman was selected for the Palacio de Hacienda while Nielsen was assigned to YPF, a company in which he remained until his departure in January 2021.
Meanwhile, in the frenetic days that are lived in the now unified Ministry of Economy, Production and Agroindustry, definitions of two other positions that have not yet been assigned names are also expected in the next few hours. This is the secretariat of Knowledge Economy and, in a definition of high political voltage, also in the area of Energy.
As Infobae learned in the Government there is a decision made that Martínez abandon that strategic position for the determination of the subsidy scheme for public services. He remains to establish who will be his replacement and when the removal of the official will be formalized.
