Britain’s flagship carrier is to ditch this key business route from the end of October, in a move likely to benefit Luxair.

The news, first reported by Paperjam, comes as Luxair’s CEO announced the airline is struggling with its finances.

The Luxembourgish carrier is likely to welcome the development, as it will now be the only airline flying this route. Luxair has not confirmed whether it will increase prices on its London City flights this autumn as a result.

The last British Airways flights between Luxembourg and London City are scheduled for Friday 28 October. After this date, flights will depart from British Airway’s main hub at London Heathrow – a far less convenient location for many business travellers.

As recently as the beginning of August, British Airways was forced to suspend ticket sales on short-haul routes from Heathrow due to staff shortages.
