The elected president, Gustavo Petro, during the act of spiritual possession to the Presidency that took place in the Parque Tercer Milenio in Bogotá, convened a popular national assembly.
“We need more and more popular organization throughout Colombia and the President of the Republic calls on them to organize themselves,” said the next Colombian president, who previously stated that “There is an organized part of the people, but it is important for the days to come to increase the quantity and quality of popular organization.”
Additionally, he explained that power is not just a desk, because power must be represented by society. “The real power was demonstrated on June 19 […]; the popular organization must be coordinated nationally, regardless of the differences in thinking and feeling; in the differences there must be a coordination of the popular world, a popular national assembly that can dialogue with the government that begins tomorrow, because we do not want the government to replace and co-opt the popular movement”.
Along the same lines, Petro pointed out that a multicolored democracy has never been experienced in the country. Furthermore, during spirit possession, he also said: “The tasks that lie ahead are arduous and we all have to go to work collectively and in solidarity.”
Likewise, he pointed out that building the Colombia of peace and justice depends on the capacity, quantity and quality of the popular movement in Colombia. “A good part of that responsibility rests on you. The responsibility rests on me so that the entire national government is willing to dialogue with you and is willing to connect.”
Presidential possession
Gustavo Petro will take office as President of the Republic after winning the presidential elections on June 19; This event will start at 10:00 am and can be followed by SEMANA TV in Colombia and in any country in the world. Possession as such is scheduled for 3:00 pm
And although many Bogotans hope to approach the Plaza de Bolívar and celebrate the inauguration of the new president, the truth is that this will be very difficult, since there is a great security scheme prepared for the event. However, Petro invited residents of the capital and Colombians to join the celebration in various public squares.
In Bogotá, the Parque Santander, the Plazoleta del Rosario, the Plaza de Las Nieves and the Parque de los Periodistas will be enabled in the center of the capitalso that the followers of the elected president can come and enjoy the inauguration, while other completely free musical and cultural events take place.
At the close of the event, the new guest of the Casa de Nariño will offer a cocktail to his international guests, including King Felipe of Spain, who will return to Madrid at midnight on Sunday. Among others, the presidents of Chile, Gabriel Boric; from Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, and from the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader.
Also part of the international delegation are former presidents Evo Morales, from Bolivia; Pepe Mujica, from Uruguay, and Dilma Rousseff, from Brazil.
