Latina explained that the police officer and his family had traveled to Huacho and, it was in that circumstance, that the combi in which they were returning to Lima suffered a mechanical problem and parked next to the Pan American Highway northso he went downstairs with his three-year-old son to check out the unit.
The assailants appeared and tried to steal the belongings of the policeman’s relatives, so Pineda Toscano used his firearm, which triggered a shootout. However, the subjects managed to kill him on the spot and fled through the crops.
The thieves also injured the three-year-old son of the PNP non-commissioned officer in the right leg, for which he was taken to the Chancay Hospitalbut, because he needed specialty care, he was transferred to the National Institute of Child Health (INSN) of San Borja.

The Interior Minister Willy Huertapointed out that the PNP “carries out the corresponding investigations to identify, arrest and proceed to report criminals to the Prosecutor’s Office, so that they receive an exemplary sanction.”
