Pablo Moiano, one of the three leaders of the CGT and referent of truckers together with his father, Hugo Moiano, announced that next Wednesday will meet with Pope Francis to discuss the situation in Argentina, especially in socio-economic terms. In addition, he praised the newcomer to the national Cabinet as Minister of Economy, Production and Agriculture, Serge Massa, although he clarified that the march of August 17 continues and was in favor of delivery of family allowances to workers.
“On Wednesday we are going to meet with the Pope. If we can, we are going to discuss what is happening in our country,” said Moyano, in relation to the different sectors of the economy and the situation of workers, whose purchasing power is decimated by high inflation, especially since the last few weeks. , when the situation worsened due to the currency crisis that impacted on prices. In fact, for next month an inflation of between 8 and 10 percent is expected.
From this perspective, Moyano considered that there are unions that “are going to tie” and others that, because they have “greater power” will be able to “beat inflation.” But he was concerned about those workers who are part of unions who will lose with inflation. In this sense, he proposed the issue of family allowances as a response.
Moyano argued that the ambition of the union sector that he leads is that family allowances reach “the 6 million workers” who are registered and not just those who work in black. As he advanced, He already spoke about this issue with an advisor to Massa and with the head of Anses, Fernanda Raverta, representative of La Cámpora and close to Cristina Kirchner.
And he was critical of the promoters of fixed sums, which are liquefied with inflation: “In the Board of Directors of the CGT a lump sum wage increase was never discussed. I, Pablo Moyano, am not going to prevent a worker who has a low salary from collecting a bonus, a fixed sum or whatever it is called,” he said. Although he clarified: “I agree with the Government granting aid.”
In relation to the recent changes in the Cabinet, Moyano also said that “there is expectation in the workers for the appointment of Massa.” “He is the right man who came at the right time”, express. But he ratified that the march that they have been planning since Silvina Batakis’ brief tenure at the Ministry of Economy, despite the Government’s attempts to stop it, “was never in doubt” and is still scheduled for August 17. In any case, a few days ago from the CGT they said that “it is not a march against the Government”, and they clarified that there will be no strike that day.
Also, he was again very critical of the agreement with the IMF signed by Alberto Fernández and Martín Guzmán to deal with the debt left by the previous government. In that sense, he not coincidentally alluded to the vice president, with whom he is on good terms and with whom he met three weeks ago in his Senate office: “Cristina told us that we have to take care of the debt of 45 billion dollars that Macri’s idiot contracted. She told us that it will not be easy, but we are living a pivotal moment”, he expressed.
One of the members of the Frente de Todos who was very critical of the economic measures being taken by the Government of Alberto Fernández is Juan Grabois, head of the Movement of Excluded Workers. After Sergio Massa’s announcements, the social leader threatened to break with the government coalition. But Moyano considered it counterproductive: “I have a good relationship with Grabois. After the march I’m going to talk to him. No one has to leave the Front of All”, he said.
