Operation Orion: PDI arrests 55 people for storing child pornography

Of the entire group, 91% are Chilean, 91% men, 40% are between 31 and 45 years old, 85% are single, and 40% have a level of education up to fourth grade. In total, 25,613 videos and 222,577 images were seized.

This Friday morning, the Investigative Police (PDI) indicated that a nationwide operation left 55 arrested for storage of child pornography.

Eight of them went to preventive detention, because they were also linked to other crimes, three of which were formalized for the crime of rape.

One of the defendants was accused of having raped a 14-year-old girl in La LiguaValparaíso region, an area where 13 people were captured due to the operation.

In total, 25,613 videos and 222,577 images were seized, files that total a storage of 2.22 TB.

Of the entire group, 91% are Chilean, 91% men, 40% are between 31 and 45 years old, 85% are single, and 40% have a level of education up to fourth grade.

The operation was called Orion, a decision inspired by the name of the Greek god of hunting.

With it, the authorities sought to prosecute crimes such as the acquisition or storage of material with sexual abuse of minors, the production and commercialization of it and the promotion of child prostitution.
