The Cowboys have demolished the Warriors 48-4 in a comprehensive showing on home soil at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

It took the Cowboys just six minute to strike first, before scoring again three minutes later.

The Warriors hit back with an important try just six minutes before half time to keep themselves in the game.

But that was the only joy they had all night with the Cowboys running in two tries in two minutes before the half-time break before scoring two more tries in the first seven minutes of the second half.

Tom Dearden had a night to remember, getting his first career double, while his halves partner Chad Townsend set up three tries and got one of his own to put the icing on top of the win.

The Warriors got a consolation try

It was raining Cowboys tries at Queensland Country Bank Stadium as Chad Townsend put in a grubber for himself to score.

61ST MINUTE

The Warriors were cruelled by an awful bounce as Tom Dearden pounced on the ball to score off Chad Townsend’s kick.

Luciano Leilua will be in Shaun Johnson’s nightmares for many weeks to come after he barged the star half off twice to score.

“What an acquisition he’s been to this Cowboys side,” Fox League’s Shane Flanagan said.

The Cowboys were in again, this time through young five-eighth Tom Dearden who sniffed a gap so threw a dummy and ran through to score.

The Cowboys finished off the first half with arguably the team try of the year. The ball was spread left before Drinkwater got a flick pass away to Valentine Holmes, who passed it to Tom Dearden and then Peta Hiku was on the end of it to score.

Fox League commentor Brenton Speed called Drinkwater “freakish,” before saying “the Cowboys hitting back at home with one of the team tries of the year.”

The Cowboys capitalised off the hip-drop penalty and three tackles later young gun Jeremiah Nanai slipped through and scored his 17th try of the season.

Warriors second-rower Jack Murchie was put on report for a hip-drop tackle on Reuben Cotter.

Edward Kosi put a try on a platter for the man inside of him, Marcelo Montoya, when he batted a cross-field kick back in for Montoya to plant down.

Cowboys young gun Jeremiah Nanai was put on report for dangerous contact after hitting low in a tackle on Addin Fonua-Blake’s legs as the third man in.

The Cowboys spread the ball to the left and Murray Taulagi barged Reece Walsh off to score in the corner.

Coen Hess crashed over off a smart pass from dummy half Reece Robson, with Fox League’s Shane Flanagan saying it was a set play and the Cowboys.

“They found him,” Flanagan said in regards to Hess aiming for Walsh.

MATCH PREVIEW

The Cowboys host the Warriors at Queensland Country Bank Stadium in an important clash heading into the finals.

With the minor premiership sewn up, the Cowboys will set their sights on locking in a top four spot over their last three games — and Friday’s Warriors clash will be their easiest ride given the Rabbitohs and Panthers their final two opponents.

They welcome back veteran winger Kyle Feldt from a hamstring injury, which pushes speedster Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow to the bench.

In another key change, Reuben Cotter will start off the bench with Coen Hess to start, while Tom Gilbert is out due to personal reasons with Luciano Leilua replacing him in the run-on side and Jamayne Taunoa-Brown joining the bench.

As for the Warriors, interim coach Stacey Jones has stuck with the same 17 that got the job done over the Bulldogs last week.

The Warriors are chasing back-to-back wins for the first time since Round 5, while the Cowboys will be hoping to bounce back from last week’s loss to the Roosters.
