Mother of Antonia Barra accuses "harassment, insults and lies" by the close circle of Martín Pradenas – Up Jobs News

Within the framework of the verdict declared guilty to Martin Pradenas for the crimes of rape and sexual abuse against Antonia Barra -and five other sexual assaults on other victims-, Marcela Parra, Antonia’s mother, assured that after a long struggle, today the family is calm “with a somewhat controversial emotion”.

“We don’t know if it’s joy, if it’s sorrow, because all this time we have had a cause, we have been united fighting for justice. But also, as a family we ask ourselves: Justice is already being achieved for Antonia and what comes next? After that?”, he maintained in conversation with CHVnoticias, just hours after the Pradenas verdict was known.

It was on Saturday morning, after a long process of almost three years, that the Oral Criminal Court (TOP) of Temuco delivered its conviction verdict against Martín Pradenas for the crimes that the Prosecutor’s Office charged him with: two crimes of rape and five of sexual abuse against six victims in the 2010-2019 period, including Antonia Barra.

Antonia’s mother assured that until Saturday afternoonday the verdict was known, They were receiving constant “harassment, insults and lies” from those close to Pradenas’ defense.

“They have always lied, their circle still, even until yesterday, they continue to attack us with lies, with falsehoods. I want to tell you that a lawyer from Temuco dared to mistreat my daughter, to say horrible words to her with horrible concepts and to us as a family as well. And we have discovered that this lawyer is from the close circle of the defense. We have received insults with false profiles that have already been notified. The false profile belongs to the accused’s father, accompanied by his brothers and family, “said Parra.

Today, Antonia’s mother is in a group called “Sisters in Pain”, where there are another fifteen mothers who have lost their daughters as a result of femicidal suicides derived from “harassment, sexual abuse or rape.” On her hard path of pain, Parra reflects on the meaning of the fight that has been carried out for justice for her daughter.

I always wondered why this happened with Antonia, but later, through therapy, I began to understand that Antonia came with a missionif Antonia had not taken her own life, this audio and everything she could leave would not have been. The defendant, and I am sure, would have continued to do the same.

About the latter, assured that there are more victims of Pradenas, who have not dared to denounce. “We are clear that there are two more people here in Temuco, who communicated with us and that they, out of fear and shame, did not want to report or sue. One did it through Facebook telling the same story that happened to Antonia, “she said.

At the reading of the verdict, Judge Leonel Torres Labbé noted the need in these cases to judging from a gender perspective. This was valued by the regional prosecutor of La Araucanía, Roberto Garrido, who pointed out that “it is a verdict that comes to break down the prejudices that are installed in society in relation to this type of crime and make the offended parties responsibility for the crimes that have affected him”.

Likewise, both the government and Antonia’s parents, They estimated the importance of the verdict against the accused of seven crimes of a sexual nature for the fight against gender violence.

“The departure of my daughter was like the tip of the iceberg to learn about all these cases. We have been the fighting flag and We hope that from now on with this sentence or conviction with a gender perspective (…) we as a society, badly macho, have the awareness that women dare to denounce and say what happened to them, because it is important that these cases do not go unpunished,” Parra said.

Regarding the sentence, which will be announced on next August 26 at 2:00 p.m.and in which the Public Ministry aspires to obtain a sentence of 41 years in prison; Parra assured that the family is prepared, because they believe that punishment and justice “will ease the pain a little.”

“The number of years for a mother who has lost a daughter, none is going to be enough. But we believe that something lessens the pain and We really hope that justice has the sentence that corresponds to the accused, because if they are not the years that the prosecution is asking for, which of the victims will be left without justice? Will it be Antonia without justice? Will it be the other victims? So, each of the victims deserves the justice that she deserves, ”she indicated.
