This Sunday took place in the Plaza de Bolívar, located in the center of Bogotá, the presidential inauguration of Gustavo Petro, who officially became the first center-left head of state in the history of Colombia.

After the new president was sworn in, Barreras invited María José Pizarro to put the presidential sash on the Cordovan. However, the congresswoman could not stand the emotion and broke down in tears in the middle of this symbolic act.

The parliamentarian, in the same way, took advantage of the possession of the former mayor of Bogotá to remember her father, Carlos Pizarro, who was assassinated in the early 1990s when he aspired to reach the House of Nariño.

Through her official Twitter account, the Colombian senator shared some emotional words before the event began and showed the tribute she paid to her father, who was one of the M-19 commanders.

“Today is a historic day for the country, of joy and celebration. Years and generations dreaming and fighting for this moment”, Pizarro initially wrote in the publication.which received dozens of comments.

Then he added: “My heartfelt tribute to those who stayed on the road for this great fight, this is also for and for you. We are going to live the party of change throughout Colombia!”

In the publication, which quickly went viral on different social networks, it can be seen that the congresswoman used her father’s image to decorate the dress she wore during the possession.

It is worth mentioning that the ceremony had to be suspended for about 10 minutes after Barrera’s speech, since the new head of state ordered to bring the sword of the liberator Simón Bolívar.

“As President of the Republic, I order the Casa Militar to bring Bolívar’s sword to the Plaza de Bolívar”, Petro pointed out before taking office with Francia Márquez, who became the first Afro-descendant vice president in the country’s history.

After the unexpected recess, the sword reached the plaza and the Cordovan gave her first speech as President of the Republic of Colombia.
