That is why in this note we are going to show you the best tricks with homemade products so that you leave your furniture as if you had just bought it.
It happens that over time, fabric sofas upholstered with cotton, velvet or linen fabric get dirty, lose color or fill with lint.
If it is true that its continuous use causes this situation, the fact of not knowing the correct way to clean it and the products to use, contribute to deterioration.
Cleaning fabric sofas and armchairs are usually not complicated at all, but it does take more time to do this. The level of soiling depends on the color and material of the upholstery. An example would be those that are made of cotton that get dirty and age faster.
1.Remove the seats and cover from the sofa stuffing
The first thing you should do is remove the seats from the sofa and, as far as possible, remove the fabric covers. The idea is that you wash them separately in the washing machine or by hand. Please note that if there are complicated stains such as food, drinks, pen ink or glue, you have to treat them first. Each case has its method and here we show you:
If the stains are from pen, paint or grease stains use isopropyl alcohol to remove them. What you have to do is soak a cloth with this alcohol and rub it on the stain. You will see how the stain dissolves.
· If the stains are greasy, leftover food or drink Like red wine, pour plenty of lukewarm water and two cups of white vinegar into a bucket. Let it soak for at least half an hour and then wash them as usual.
If the covers present Bad smell and very stubborn stains, it is best to dilute a cap of ammonia in two liters of water and submerge the cover. It is a great way to remove bad odor.
2. Pass the hand vacuum
When you take the seats out you will see all the dust, crumbs and lint that have accumulated over time. To get rid of all that use a handheld vacuum. If you don’t have one at home, no problem and you can use a soft bristle brush to remove these remains.
3. Use baking soda and vinegar
As taking advantage of the time while you put the covers in the washing machine, you can clean the skeleton of the fabric sofa.
The best way to avoid complications and bad odors in the future is to use baking soda and cleaning vinegar.
How do I prepare it? Very easy, in a bowl add 2 tablespoons of baking soda plus 1 splash of white vinegar. If you like, add a few drops of lemon juice. Mix well to create a medium thick paste.
How do I apply it? With a lint-free cloth, rub the mixture in the areas where there are stains (grease stains, whitish or colored stains, drink stains or similar). Once this work is finished, grab another cloth moistened with water (squeeze it well) and remove the remains of the product.
4. Use homemade foaming detergent
As a final point to get rid of dirt once and for all, make this mixture: In a deep bowl, add a tablespoon of liquid dish detergent plus a splash of water.
Then, with a mixer, beat the mixture until you create a very soft white foam, similar to shaving foam. Then, with the help of a (dry) shower sponge, rub the foam on all the surfaces of the fabric sofa.
Finally, open the windows and doors and let the air flow so that the damp areas dry. You could use a hair dryer to remove moisture from the sofa.
If you choose to spray the cleaner directly onto the fabric sofa, what you can do is to pass the steam from the iron and then rub with a previously moistened cloth. It’s a good technique, but as in the previous case, you must make sure that the sofa (and its filling) dry well.
