Matanzas.– The Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE), despite needing maintenance to gain reliability and increase power, continues online with the delivery of more than 220 megawatts since its brief three-day stoppage at the end of June.

Everyone follows the performance of this block with expectation, since they trust in the stability of the installation, one of the most efficient in the energy sector, commented Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Party and head of its Economic-Productive Department, in a brief exchange with managers of the Matanzas industry.

People often wonder what is happening with the Guiteras, because they know that the contribution of this plant is decisive, and that it is one of the strengths of the National Electric System.

Referring to the current energy contingency, the party leader said that it is necessary for the population to become aware of the importance of making an increasingly rational use of electricity, especially during peak hours.

We can’t save what we don’t have, but we can reduce consumption, since just a 20-watt light bulb that we turn off at peak electricity constitutes a notable saving, he reflected.

He also emphasized caring for the plants in service and promoting the recognition of workers in the sector.

Queipo Ruiz was interested in the actions implemented in the territory to fully serve those who work in the CTE, many of them young people with very high preparation and a sense of belonging.

Training an operator in this sector is very difficult, sometimes it takes years, that is why it is necessary to serve them, make things easier for them, and make them feel motivated, he stressed after acknowledging that the efficiency achieved by this and other plants should be better reflected in the salary .

Misbel Palmero Aguiar, general director of the enclave, explained that the block contributes approximately a fifth of the energy generated in the nation, and that it stands out among its peers for being in the western part of the island, where the greatest loads are concentrated, in addition to consume national crude by pipeline, without the need for transportation expenses, among other advantages.

At the moment the Guiteras registers a high consumption of water, a sign of some eventuality, something that they keep under strict observation, he assured.
