Italy begins vaccination campaign against monkeypox – Up Jobs News

This Monday the vaccination campaign began in Italy to treat the new health crisis due to monkeypox declared by the WHO on July 23, 2022. Other countries in the world such as the United States and Spain began their vaccination campaigns about a month ago.

According to the United Nations Organization (UN), Monkeypox virus is a viral zoonotic disease, which means it can be transmitted from animals to humans. It can also spread from person to person.

This disease was endemic to the African continent, however, the disease managed to cross borders and is now classified by the WHO as a public health emergency of international concern. The United States also declared the disease a public health emergency on Thursday, August 4 of this year.

The vaccine being applied in Italy is Jynneos (MVA-BN), a smallpox vaccine manufactured by Bavarian Nordic and approved by the European Medicines Agency.

The first doses will be administered at the Spallanzani hospital in Rome. The hospital has commented that 200 doses of the vaccine are expected to be applied starting this Monday and that they have a waiting list of 600 vaccination requests.

In Milan, Italy, they will begin vaccination against monkeypox next Thursday.
