"He jumped on the Rejection bandwagon": reactions to the possible urgency of the Government to the 4/7 project

The possible urgency of the Government to the project of 4/7 generated diverse reactions in the ruling party and the opposition. Deputy Leonardo Soto (PS) says that the Executive seeks to speed up its processing and avoid delaying maneuvers by the Republican Party. Meanwhile, Gustavo Benavente (UDI) assures that La Moneda “got on the Rejection bandwagon.”

Deputies of the Constitution Commission assure that the Government has already decided give urgency to the project that reduces to 4/7 the quorum necessary to reform the current Fundamental Charter.

The working table has already approved this initiative in general, almost unanimously among its members, but the indications that have been presented still need to be discussed.

Deputy Leonardo Soto (PS) recalled that his caucus submitted a proposal to add constitutional organic laws and qualified quorum to the discussion.

In addition, he assured that the Executive agreed to give the project utmost urgency for two reasons. “That it has a fast process and prevent the maneuvers of the Republican Party, which wants to provoke its postponement until after the plebiscite”he detailed.


Project of 4/7: “Government jumped on the bandwagon of Rejection”

On the other hand, the deputy Gustavo Benavente (UDI) affirmed that the government of Gabriel Boric “jumped on the Rejection bandwagon” with this urgency.

“He has already assumed that Chileans are going to reject and, consequently, he is accelerating the reform of the current Constitution or looking for a different one from the draft that is being proposed to us,” he said.

On the other hand, he criticized the Republican Party for its rejection of this initiative. “He has remained faithful to the defense of the legacy of the Pinochet Constitution”he expressed.

It should be remembered that the only vote against in the Constitution commission was Luis Fernando Sánchezrepresentative of the Republican Party.
