Government will put great urgency on the project that annuls the Fisheries Law and promises citizen dialogues

The Government will give utmost urgency to project that declares the nullity of the Fisheries Lawwhich was approved on August 8 in the Chamber of Deputies.

The initiative was entered on January 6, 2016 and ensures that there was a “undue pressure on parliamentarians, exerted by different economic groups of industrial fishing that sought to benefit from the changes proposed by the law in question.”

After being approved in the Chamber with 117 votes in favor, none against and 20 abstentions, the project is in its second legislative process in the Senate.

The debate has already begun in the Committee on Maritime Interests, Fisheries and Aquaculture, after a rocky start. It should be remembered that Senator Daniel Núñez (PC) accused his four colleagues of not attending the session.

“There are many people in the Senate who do not want this annulment to be approved and the interests of the fishing companies are going to be present in the debate”he pointed out at that time.

Fisheries Law: Government promises citizen dialogue process

According to the Executive, an eventual annulment of the current law does not leave the fishing sector without regulation, since Two years would be contemplated for the dictation of a new regulation.

“This is a reasonable period that allows the preparation and processing of a new Fisheries Law, an initiative on which the Government has been working as a priority since the beginning of the period”indicate from La Moneda.

In this sense, they assure that they will look for carry out a process of participatory citizen dialoguesas of September 21 of this year, to integrate the vision of all the actors involved.

“The commitment assumed by the Government in this matter is to begin the processing of the bill in Congress during the first half of 2023”they add.

Finally, it should be noted that extreme urgency means that the chamber in question has 15 days to learn about and dispatch the initiative.
