“I would have loved if Guillermo del Toro had made the third movie and finished the story. But over time it became very clear that this was not going to happen. About three years ago, both the producers and the writer Andrew Cosby and I started working on this new story. Del Toro wanted nothing to do with this, because he wasn’t going to direct it. We offered him to be a producer because Ron Perlman said he wouldn’t do it without Guillermo del Toro.”said the creator of the character.

“Once we had Neil Marshall we thought: ‘Why are we going to have to continue with that universe?’ Because a del Toro movie is a del Toro movie. Y you don’t want to give such a personal movie to someone else. Especially someone as great as Neil Marshall. That was how we came to opt for a reboot instead of a third party.
