Fire in a shopping mall in Punta del Este: the roof collapsed and after 12 hours they cannot control it – Up Jobs News

A fierce fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday in a shopping mall in Punta del Este, Uruguay, and as a consequence of the advance of the fire collapsed part of the roof and a wall of that shopping center. The incident was caused by an alleged electrical failure in the bakery of English store.

According to the newspaper The country of Uruguay, the fire started around 4 in the morning: the firefighters were unable to control the flames and the danger spread to all of Punta Shopping, although so far no injuries were reported.

The images show how one of the walls collapses, forcing firefighters to move away from the source of the fire to seek shelter.

“Since early Saturday morning, the firefighters continue to work incessantly. We appreciate the hard work of all of them. The mall will remain closed until further notice, we will keep you informed. Again, thanks for the love and support,” the shopping center said in a statement.

For its part, the National Fire Department reported that they are still working on the site: “Despite the efforts of several firefighters, The spread of the fire has not been stopped.which advances through the shopping of Punta del Este. There was partial collapse of a wall and roof“.

The fire continues to spread in the mall

As reported by the Fire Department, the advance of the flames in the subsoil had been stopped, stopping the spread to the rest of the mall. However, later it spread again and the firefighters worked all night and early on Sunday, adding crews to this task.

During this Sunday after 4:00 p.m., the crews continued with the work, but the fire was still out of control.

The Fire Department statement indicated that the flames also affected some vehicles located in the basement and that a wall collapsed.

As for the smoke, it was channeled through the entire basement level to upper floors, so they had to use compressed air cylinders for respiratory protection equipment.
