As part of an official visit to the Island, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, H.E. Mr. Nikola Selaković held a meeting with the President of the National Assembly of People’s Power, Esteban Lazo Hernández. Occurred within the framework of the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both nations, the exchange took place in the Capitol, institutional seat of the Cuban parliament.
In a few words of welcome, the member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party conveyed to the Serbian foreign minister a greeting on behalf of the Cuban people.
The President of the Cuban Parliament highlighted the historical ties of friendship between both nations, since Serbia was one of the first countries to recognize Cuba, in 1902. In turn, Esteban Lazo recalled the visit he made in June 2016 to that sister nation, in which the Cuban delegation received signs of respect and affection.
Esteban Lazo also thanked the support offered each year by the Republic of Serbia to Cuba in condemning the blockade of the United States in the United Nations.
For his part, Hon. Mr. Nikola Selaković noted that Serbia reaffirms its willingness to continue strengthening the bonds of friendship and collaboration between the two peoples.
Further encouraging parliamentary cooperation and transferring the relations of both countries to fields such as medicine, science and biotechnology, were some of the ideas addressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia.
