President Ivan Duke will present an award to his successor, Gustavo Petro. The event is scheduled for noon on August 5, and it would be the second meeting, since the June 19 election, between the outgoing and elected heads of state.
The event will be at 12:30 in the afternoon on August 5 at the Casa de Nariño. This was made known by Gustavo Petro’s team when confirming his agenda. According to reports, the elected president will receive the Cruz de Boyacá in the order Commander’s Cross.
The history of this symbol dictates from the time of independence. The Foreign Ministry itself explains that this was an award that the liberator gave to his outstanding soldiers after the Battle of Boyacá. This Cross is divided into eight categories.

“Commander’s Cross may be granted to Extraordinary Envoys and Ministers Plenipotentiary accredited especially for transmission of controlto Resident Ministers, Heads of Business, Bishops, Colonels and Lieutenant Colonels, Majors, Ship, Frigate or Corvette Captains, as well as nationals or foreigners, ”says the Foreign Ministry about the order that Petro will receive.

This August 4, the mayor of Bogotá, claudia lopez, gave the outgoing president the Civil Order to the Mértius in the degree of Extraordinary Grand Cross. As explained by the official from the capital, the recognition was due to Duque’s commitment to the works in Bogotá.
