Silverstone (Great Britain), 6 Aug. Diogo Moreira (KTM) made history by getting his first pole position and also the first for a Brazilian rider by being the fastest in the official classification for the Moto3 British Grand Prix at the SIlverstone circuit.
Moreira, 18 years old, surprised all the favourites, because nobody had the rider from São Paulo in this classification and, nevertheless, the Brazilian “embroidered” a second lap of the six that he completed that none of his rivals could beat and which earned him the first “pole” of his sports career, ahead of the Spanish Izan Guevara (GasGas), who finished barely 68 thousandths of a second, and the Japanese Ryusei Yamanaka (KTM), who did it at 78 thousandths of a second.
In a brilliant finish to the first classification, with the Italian Riccardo Rossi (Honda) standing out almost from the beginning of the session in the time table, the Spaniards Xavier Artigas (CFMoto) and Sergio García Dols (GasGas), achieved the pass to the second classification with the second and third place within a large group of pilots, with the Japanese Taiyo Furusato (Honda) fourth.
Sergio García Dols, the world leader, had to work intensely to achieve his objective, but with two almost consecutive fast laps at the end of the session he achieved it, which David Muñoz (KTM), Adrián Fernández (KTM), Jaume Masiá (KTM), the most affected of all of them, in addition to Carlos Tatay (CFMoto), Ana Carrasco (KTM), the only female in the championship, penultimate, ahead of Marc García (KTM).
In the second classification it was possible to see a bit of everything, on the one hand the riders who were looking to go it alone in search of their fastest lap and others who chose to slow down their pace to look for a good wheel, which represents an added risk in the face of the possibility of being sanctioned by the Race Direction for generating dangerous situations for the rest of the participants.
The Japanese Kaito Toba (KTM) was the first reference in the second classification riding alone, while Izan Guevara (GasGas) waited in his workshop for the moment to leave, which was used by the Turkish Deniz Öncü (KTM) to leave after his wake, while the Japanese were already surpassed by a series of riders who, on their second lap and riding in a group, began to scratch tenths off the clock.
The Brazilian Diogo Moreira (KTM) was the next reference when he lapped in 2:10.951, ahead of Riccardo Rossi and Stefano Nepa, while Sergio García Dols had a hard time picking up a good pace again and, six minutes from the end, he was in tenth position, with many drivers -seven- still without setting a best time in the table.
The Japanese Tatsuki Suzuki and the Italian Dennis Foggia opted for teamwork, riding together on the British track and with their first flying lap they placed seventh and sixth, respectively, when Izan Guevara (GasGas), on the same lap, came third , moved up to second position 68 thousandths of a second behind Moreira, with his teammate and world leader falling to fifteenth place.
García Dols, in the fifth lap he completed, within the main group of riders, managed to improve his time to climb to tenth position, between the two Husqvarna riders, the British John McPhee and the Japanese Ayumu Sasaki, who ended up beating both with the lowering of the checkered flag.
No one could beat the time of Diogo Moreira, who got the first pole position of his sports career, ahead of Izan Guevara and the Japanese Rysusei Yamanaka, teammate of the South American pilot.
Rossi, Nepa and Öncü finished in the second row of the starting line-up, with Foggia, Suzuki and Sasaki in third and McPhee, Sergio García Dols and Daniel Holgado in fourth. EFE
