Almost 1,100 days later, a chill returned this Friday to run through the body of the people from Huesca who clothed the Danzantes in his last exam before the big revalidation on August 10, the big day of the Festival of San Lorenzo. It was after hearing again the clashes of swords and sticks to the sound of traditional melodies performed by the Huesca Music Band.
The dances of ‘Las Espadas’, ‘Los Palos Viejos’, ‘Los Palos Nuevos’, ‘Las Cintas’, ‘El Degollau’, and again ‘Las Espadas’, delighted an audience that once again showed all their love towards the 28 dancers who attended the last rehearsal in the courtyard of the Pío XXI school (only one was missing due to a family matter). The direction was in charge of the foreman, Francisco San Emeterio.
Among them were the two ‘rookies’, Jorge and Enrique Blascowho will pick up the baton from Antonio Nunilo and Jesús Gracia, respectively, who will ‘hang’ the swords after half a century.
“Today’s act already tells us that we are very close to the Fiestas de San Lorenzo and after two years without being able to dance, we are going to take it with more desire than ever”, assured Santos Santolariawho joined the group in 1988. In addition, he wanted to show his gratitude for the “enormous affection” that the people from Huesca always show him in this rehearsal and affirmed that he was anxious for August 10 to arrive “because they are emotions that are only experienced on that day”.
This Friday’s event is also special for the Music band. “For us serves as a starting point because it means that this is already serious and after the pandemic even more so. In addition, we do not consider it as one more rehearsal since whenever you are in front of the public you have to give your best,” he said. its director, Alejandro Escuer.
“Today we have a tremendous desire to hear the music of San Lorenzo and to see us all without a mask again”
Among the attendees there were many ‘fans’ of the Danzantes and of all ages. “We come every year with the little ones because they always love it and we go to all the party performances. They are very excited and even more so now after the pandemic,” Salas Santamaría explained.who also assured that “Without the Dancers, the Fiestas de San Lorenzo would not be understoodlistening to the songs gives you goosebumps”.
Gabriela Pardo never misses the rehearsal either since her son, who is now eight years old, was little. “It is true that seeing them without wearing their costumes from the 10th is perhaps not that exciting but today we have a tremendous desire to hear the music of San Lorenzo and to see us all without a mask againLike it’s 2019 all over again.”
“Finally it seems that we are getting back to normal”
While, Víctor Lera goes every year to see the Dancers but also the Music Band since her daughter plays on it. “It finally seems that we are getting back to normal again. I’ve been from Huesca all my life and I always come because for me it’s very emotional,” he said.
