The member of the Political Bureau of the Party and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, heads the delegation that attends the inauguration of the elected president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro.
The Cubaminrex website reports that during his stay in the South American nation, the Foreign Minister will reiterate Cuba’s willingness to promote bilateral relations and cooperation with the new government, as well as the invariable commitment to peace in Colombia.
The Cuban delegation is also made up of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Josefina Vidal, the General Director of Latin America and the Caribbean of the Minrex, Eugenio Martínez Enríquez, and the Cuban Ambassador to Colombia, Javier Caamaño Cairo.
The investiture ceremony will take place in the Plaza Bolívar in Bogotá, with the presence of the presidents of Bolivia, Luis Arce; from Argentina, Alberto Fernandez; from Chile, Gabriel Boric; Costa Rican Rodrigo Chaves; and the Honduran Xiomara Castro.
There is also talk of the presence of King Felipe VI of Spain, the presidents of Ecuador, Panama, Paraguay and the Dominican Republic, among other members of international delegations.
Gustavo Petro, representative for the Historical Pact, a force that represents progressive and left-wing sectors in Colombia, will try to change the foreign policy followed by his predecessor Iván Duque, breaking off relations with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
Colombia will have to rediscover leadership at the regional level, open a space in its agenda for multilateralism, as well as reestablish its relations with several Latin American countries.
