The Cuban men’s team fell this Friday for the first time in the 44th Chess Olympiad Chennai-2022 against India 2 by a score of 3.5 by 0.5.
On the seventh day, with rest for the national title holder Yasser Quesada, the representatives of the Greater Antilles could not take advantage of what, without a doubt, has been the revelation team.
Carlos Daniel Albornoz, Luis Ernesto Quesada and Isán Ortiz lost to Gukesh D., Sarin Nihal and Praggnanandhaa R., in that order. Omar Almeida agreed to a draw with Adhiban B.
With this result, the Cuban team fell to twentieth place, while India 2 is third, behind Armenia and Uzbekistan. The fourth to eighth places are occupied by India, the United States, Germany, Kazakhstan and France.
The women’s team had the same luck, losing by the same score against Mongolia. In this round the national champion Yaniela Forgas also rested. Yerisbel Miranda drew with Bayarjargal Bayarmaa, while Lisandra Ordaz, Maritza Arribas and Ineymig Hernández lost to Altan-Ulzii Enkhtuul, Turmunkh Munkhzul and Bat-Erdene Mungunzul, respectively.
The Cubans are in 40th place after seven rounds and four to go. The first local team is leading the tournament, followed by Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia, Poland, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria and Mongolia.
This Saturday the men will face Andorra (27) and the women will face Austria (38).
