The Chinese ambassador to Cuba, Ma Hui, offered a press conference this Friday in which he described the recent visit by the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, to the Taiwan region as an action “of a very negative and leading to extremely serious consequences.

The diplomat reaffirmed that the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National People’s Congress, the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Ministry of National Defense, and other instances of the Chinese government, have made public their position on the matter, clarifying the firm opposition and categorical condemnation of Pelosi’s actions.

“China has taken necessary and appropriate countermeasures, including applying sanctions on Pelosi and members of her immediate family,” he said.

The ambassador emphasized that “China categorically condemns Nancy Pelosi’s visit to China’s Taiwan region, which is a serious violation of widely recognized international relations norms.the one-China principle and the stipulations of the three China-US Joint Communiqués.”

He added that the visit “has severely impacted the political foundation of Sino-US relationshas grossly infringed China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, seriously undermined the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait, and sent a very wrong signal to secessionist forces for “Taiwan independence”.

“This is an extremely irresponsible, provocative and dangerous act, and a complete political farce!” he opined.

Ma Hui recalled that “The one China principle is the universal consensus of the international community and constitutes the premise and foundation for the establishment and development of diplomatic relations between China and the United States”.

“There is only one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory, and the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate government that represents all of China,” he stressed, arguing that “this has been clearly recognized by Resolution 2758 of 1971 of the General Assembly of the United Nations”.

According to Ma Hui, 181 countries have established diplomatic relations with China on the basis of the one-China principle, including the United States.

“In 1979, in the Sino-US Joint Communique on Establishing Diplomatic Relations, the US clearly recognized that the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate Government of China and will only maintain cultural, commercial, and other unofficial relations with the people of Taiwan.

“Successive US administrations have repeatedly reiterated that they adhere to the one-China policy and do not support ‘Taiwan independence,’” he said.

In this sense, affirmed the representative of Beijing in Havana, Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan “goes against the universal grain and constitutes a serious political provocation for elevating official US exchanges with Taiwan. Any excuse on the US side is pale.”

The ambassador pointed out that, at present, the Taiwan Strait is facing a new round of tensions and severe challenges, which is mainly due to the repeated provocative behavior of the Taiwanese authorities and the United States.

“Taiwanese authorities have been pretending to seek independence using the US, they refuse to recognize the 1992 Consensus and promote ‘gradual independence,’” he said.

He denounced that “in particular, the United States abandons honesty and trust, insists on distorting, obscuring and emptying the one-China principle, increasing tensions around Taiwan, and emboldening secessionist activities in pursuit of” Taiwan independence “.

The position of the Chinese government and people on the Taiwan issue is consistent, he stressed. “Resolutely upholding national sovereignty and territorial integrity is the firm will of the more than 1.4 billion Chinese people, and realizing the complete reunification of the motherland is the common aspiration and sacred responsibility of the entire Chinese nation.”

According to the diplomat, “China has already taken and will undoubtedly continue to take all necessary measures to resolutely defend its national sovereignty.territorial integrity, and national reunification, leaving no room for “Taiwan independence” secessionist forces and any interference by outside forces.”

He added that the Taiwan issue is purely China’s internal affair, and no foreign country, including the US, has the right to interfere.

“The historical trajectory of the Taiwan issue is very clear, and the fact and status quo that both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to the same China are also very clear.

He also pointed out that the Taiwan issue is about safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, not a democracy issue.

“We urge the US side to stop playing the Taiwan card, stop meddling in Taiwan affairs and China’s internal affairs, stop fooling itself and others.”

The US should stop saying one thing but doing the opposite on the Taiwan issue, stop supporting and colluding with secessionist forces, Ma Hui stressed.

He noted that the US must honor President Joe Biden’s promise not to seek a “new Cold War” with China and not seek to change China’s system.

“The correct way to treat each other among all countries is mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, non-confrontation and win-win cooperation, and it is the same for two big countries like China and the US.”

The ambassador thanked the support of the international community and the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, who reiterated that the UN will continue to respect the principle of one China and Resolution 2758 approved by the UN General Assembly.

“More than 160 countries and many parties have launched their voice for justice early, stressing that they should adhere to the one-China principle and support China in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

He affirmed that the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement condemning the interference in its internal affairs, rejecting the actions aimed at damaging the territorial integrity and sovereignty of China, and emphasizing its concern about the aggressive policy and the military presence of the US and its allies in the Taiwan Strait, actions that lead to tensions around that region.

That statement by the Minrex has had wide repercussions in the Chinese press, he pointed out, as well as the pronouncements of the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, and Cubans from all sectors They emphasized their opposition to acts that infringe China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and condemned interference in China’s internal affairs.

“This solidarity is not only valuable support for China, but support for the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and international fairness and justice,” he said.
