The National Center for Epidemiology, Prevention and Control of Diseases (CDC Peru) of the Ministry of Health of Peru (Minsa), issued an epidemiological alert to public and private health facilities nationwide due to the increase in cases and occurrence of malaria outbreaks in regions of the country.
In order to strengthen the surveillance and epidemiological investigation system, adopt prevention and control measures, the CDC Peru issued an epidemiological alert for nearly 15,000 cases of malaria.
These notifications have been occurring with an increase of 64.22% of cases nationwide compared to the same period in 2021, which includes 4 deaths from autochthonous transmission, of which 3 deaths were in children 2, 4 and 7 years old .
In this context, the CDC Peru recommends that the population take into account:
1. The use of long-sleeved shirts of fine fabric.
2. The application of repellents, preferably at dawn and dusk.
3. The use of mosquito nets with residual action pesticides.
4. Good management of physical control and work with the community cleaning ditches.
In the same way, CDC Peru suggests to the staff that Geresa, Diresa and Diris should disseminate the definitions of malaria cases established in the document of the series of epidemiological surveillance standards in health in all health establishments.
