The Universal Guaranteed Pension (PGU) is a benefit managed by the Social Security Institute (IPS) that consists of a monetary contribution that aims to improve the pensions of the elderly.
From the August 1 the PGU expanded its coverage so that more older people can access it. Also, from this month, the payment amount changed, rising to a maximum of $193,917 for those who have a base pension less than or equal to $660,366 per month.
It should be noted that the payment of the new beneficiaries since August will take place during the same monthalthough there is no definite date yet.
The updated requirements to receive the PGU are:
- Be 65 years of age or older.
- Not being part of a family group belonging to the richest 10% of the population.
- Have a base pension of less than $1,048,200 (amount of the higher pension).
- Prove residence in Chile in one of these two cases:
-A period of not less than 20 continuous or discontinuous years, since the applicant has turned 20 years of age.
-A period of not less than four years of residence in the last five years immediately prior to the date of submission of the application to benefit from the PGU benefit.
Can pensioners with life annuities receive the PGU?
Life annuities pensioners CAN receive the PGU. To receive it you can apply:
- Making the application on the website www.persona.ipsenlinea.cl/IpsEnLinea/ or at the ChileAtiende branches.
- Request it at the offices of the respective insurance company that pays the annuity.
