The designated Minister of Education, Alexander Gavriria, began to form his work team for the tasks of his portfolio. This Friday she announced the name of her Deputy Minister of Higher Education.
“Dr. Aurora Vergara Figueroa will be the new Vice Minister of Higher Education. Next to her, We will work for the reconciliation of Colombia through the dignity of education”, announced Gaviria on his Twitter account.
Following the appointment, Senator-elect Alexander López shared a video of Vergara’s reaction to the appointment, stating that felt “honored” to receive this “responsibility” and firstly thanked Gaviria and then the president-elect, Gustavo Petro, and the vice-president-elect, Francia Márquez
“We will work together, together, together, in a great responsibility of education for peace, education for reconciliation; a relevant education. I know we have a wonderful job. They have a servant to be able to advance in all the recommendations they are making to us to meet our goals,” said the next Vice Minister of Higher Education.
Vergara Figueroa is a sociologist from the Universidad del Valle. She has experience in university teaching on Social Studies issues and was director of the Center for Afrodiasporic Studies (CEAF) at Icesi University for the last ten years.
This academic, a native of Istmina (Chocó), has a doctorate from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a post-doctorate from Harvard University.
