“Growing up, there was a lot of racism and bullying and stuff like that, and I think that was heavily internalised … being Asian meant being bullied, or being inferior to some of my classmates or being a target.”
But his worldview modified three years in the past when Choi noticed his first theatre present centred on Asian tales with an all Asian cast.
“It was truly weird seeing Asian characters on stage for the first time … stuff like that has been really healing for me,” he stated.
“I think everyone will be taken on a journey through this piece that really makes you think and go through these emotions with us and laugh along the way.
“The high school version of me that was being bullied is the first audience member that I would love to give this to.”
Choi stated being along with his group created a protected setting to discover the Asian expertise extra deeply.

Choi stated the piece helps each artists make sense of their very own contradictions too.
“I think we’ve always had these emotions somewhere and then this [play] … allows us to express them. It’s so liberating. I feel like more of myself on stage because [this play] allows me to express emotions that I haven’t been able to express before,” he stated.
“I’m really excited for the conversations to come out of it … because I feel like that can also help stimulate change and also encourage these conversations.”
