President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador assured that, although the federal government acted immediately in the case of the Coahuila miners trapped in a flooded coal pit, he understands the pain and despair of his relatives.
Referring to the claims he received during his visit to the affected area, the president stated that he is aware that as a public official, he has to pay a “fee of humiliation.”
“They (the families) are, you can imagine, very hurt, sad, worried and also full of feeling. You have to understand them, embrace them, love them. A lady told me something, I don’t take it badly. when one is public server and he does things thinking of others, when there is no conscience problem, one can and should always think about paying a fee of humiliation”, he said.
After the presidential visit, a mother of a family reproached President Lopez Obrador has gone to take the photo “with our pain”.
The president said this morning that has no charge of conscience because his government acted quickly, because in two hours the DN-III Plan was launched, and in three hours there were already 92 troops from the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena).
He assured that “all (the relatives) have faith, nobody is thinking of anything other than the rescue, they have a lot of faith, they explained to us that when those mines are worked the same miners are made like hollowsshelters, and that is what is being thought, then do the extraction as quickly as possible, the drain to enter That’s all, so that they can enter (the rescuers), “he emphasized.
He explained that his decision to visit the mine was due to the fact that he wanted to go check how the work was progressing, “basically for that, that’s why I didn’t want to talk to the press, that everyone was there, waiting, some in good faith and others, we already know, who want to get rid of everything for everything”.
The president thus defined the priorities regarding the collapsing mine: “One, rescue; two, establish responsibilities and punish the guilty; and three, protection of family members”.
