The Minister of Public Health, José Angel Portal Miranda, revealed this morning the Identity of the first fatality of the Matanzas fire recognized by the Cuban Government. She did it during a meeting about the supertanker base catastrophewhich the authorities described as an accident, according to the official version, after the lightning strike in one of the fuel tanks last Friday night.
The deceased was identified by Legal Medicine as the Cienfuegos firefighter Juan Carlos Santana Garrido, 60 years old.
the official newspaper September 5 specified that the deceased was the first operator of the extinguishing equipment of the Special Command for the Protection of the Camilo Cienfuegos Oil Refinery. She has held that position for 15 years.
“In Rhodes, where he lived, the people pay homage to him,” said the local media on its Facebook profile.
The official journalist Mayelin del Sol reported through her social networks that family, friends, co-workers were waiting for the remains of Santana Garrido, who will be buried in the local cemetery’s Pantheon of Combatants.
After the disaster at the Matanzas Super Tanker Base, 17 people have disappeared, most of them firefightersas reported by the authorities.
Portal Miranda said this morning that at the close of 6:00 AM, 122 people have been treated in hospital facilities and a total of 98 medical discharges have been given.
There are currently 24 hospitalized patients. On Sunday, 13 patients were discharged. Five critical patients remain, three seriously ill and 16 in care.
