A recent study by QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute health economist Associate Professor Louisa Gordon — one of the presenters at the three-day congress — found the average first-year costs of treating melanoma per patient ranged from about $650 for early-stage disease to more than $100,000 for advanced stage.
The SCCA runs an accreditation program for general practitioners, allowing patients to identify doctors who have completed significant additional study and have undergone assessment in the diagnosis, treatment and management of skin cancer.
