CONVICTED child killer Karen Harrington has asked prison bosses for a temporary release to see family — just three months into her life sentence for murder.
The brazen monster, who beat two-year-old Santina Cawley to death in July 2019, continues to proclaim her innocence from her jail cell in Limerick Prison.

In May, the 37-year-old was found guilty of murdering Santina in the flat where she was minding the toddler for her then partner, Santina’s dad Michael.
The toddler was found by her dad lying naked on a dirty duvet in the apartment at Elderwood Park on Boreenmanna Road in Cork city on July 5, 2019 with critical injuries at 5am.
Two weeks after the jury’s decision, Harrington lodged an appeal against her murder conviction.
We can reveal that, in addition, she has applied for a short-term temporary release on “compassionate grounds” so she can visit family members.
A source said: “It would be very highly unlikely she would succeed in this application as she is in prison for such a short length of time.
“But then we are dealing with Karen, who claims to have no recollection of killing Santina, who claims there was someone else in the flat at the time of the killing, but is unwilling to say who that person is.
“There would be a public outcry if she was seen out on Temporary Release, especially given the horror of this particular murder.”
Harrington, of Lakelands Crescent in Mahon, was convicted of murdering Santina following a 14-day trial during which she said she was unsure who killed the child.

When asked by the prosecuting counsel “if you hadn’t inflicted the injuries who did?”, she said she couldn’t comment on it.
In Limerick Prison, according to sources, Harrington is constantly proclaiming her innocence.
No date has yet been set for her appeal by the Court of Criminal Appeal.
However, a legal source said Harrington will have an uphill climb in her attempt to overcome a unanimous jury verdict of guilty in her murder trial.
They said: “She is fully entitled to lodge an appeal and to have it heard by the Court but given the fact that this is a murder conviction, she can only appeal the conviction itself.
“She cannot appeal the severity of the sentence as this is a mandatory sentence for all killers.”
