Two small aircraft collided this Thursday at a California airport, local authorities reported, with a report of multiple deaths.
Federal aviation authorities reported that two people were aboard a twin-engine Cessna 340, and a third was piloting a single-engine Cessna 152.
The planes “collided while the pilots were on their final approaches to Watsonville Municipal Airport,” a small facility 80 miles south of San Francisco.
“No injuries were reported on the ground,” reported the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in a statement to AFP.
The FAA did not specify if all the people on board the planes were killed.
However, the official accounts of the city of Watsonville on social networks reported “multiple deaths”.
The National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation.
The aircraft apparently struck a pickup truck but no one on the ground was injured in the city, which is located about 20 miles (32 kilometers) northeast of downtown San Diego.
Later, the pilot of an ultralight plane was seriously injured after crashing into a building at Camarillo Airport in Ventura County, about 60 miles from downtown Los Angeles.
Another accident in California
It is not the first case of an accident in California in August, since on the 10th of that month a small plane caught fire after making an emergency landing on a busy highway in the area. Despite car traffic on all sides, the pilot managed to land the plane without injuring himself or motorists. The FAA is investigating the cause of the accident.
The images spread on social networks show how the plane hit the runway unexpectedly, but failed to damage any vehicle that was traveling on the highway in California.
