Schueberfouer has never been a cheap night out, but things could worsen this year as everything is set to become a tad more expensive.
The 680th edition of the Schueberfouer kicks off this Friday, but inflation is making food, drinks and rides pricier than ever.
While efforts are being made to keep prices reasonable, inflation cannot be ignored, says Charel Hary, president of the stallholders’ association. The municipality of Luxembourg City has been supportive by scrapping all stall fees for this year.
Food and beverage stalls especially expect higher prices, while the games are less affected.
The energy crisis has also become a main discussion point at the Schueberfouer. Laurent Schwaller, who is responsible for the management of the fair, explains that a lot of progress has been made for more efficient energy consumption. Water connections are better sealed and the fair’s gas use is being minimalised.
This year, the Schueberfouer will run until 1am during the week as well as on weekends; all-nighters have been cut. Charel Hary sees this as a positive development both for residents as well as for the staff, it is simply too exhausting to be open until 2am. Hary adds that this decision was already made years ago, and was not related to Covid-19.
Organisers are expecting around 2 million visitors over the 20 days of the Schueberfouer, which will run from 19 August to 7 September.
