The Broncos are “sitting on a landmine” over the future of superstar forward Payne Haas.
That’s the opinion of Daily Telegraph’ reporter David Riccio who said Broncos fans should hold serious concerns that Haas is not with Brisbane next season.
Haas is contracted with the Broncos until the end of 2024 but rocked the club by formally submitting a transfer request in May.
The 22-year-old is reportedly on $750,000 a season but is seeking an upgraded deal worth up to $1 million a season.

The Origin forward would command plenty of offers with the Sydney Morning Herald reporting a big-money move to European rugby could also be on the table.
“This one’s a little concerning if I’m a Broncos fan,” Riccio said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“You just know it’s going to rear its head as soon as the final whistle blows for the Broncos this season.
“It’s a major issue within that football club in relation to whether Payne Haas remains at the Broncos.
“If I’m a Broncos fan I’m not too confident, I feel like there’s movement here.
“We’ve heard recently about European Rugby for Payne Haas, honestly that’s just pie in the sky stuff to try and create tension and the prospect that hey, ‘You better come to the party Broncos or we’re looking at other options’.”
While other competition clubs are yet to table offers to the Blues forward, Riccio believes rival sides wont’t hesistate to snap him up if he pushes ahead with his release request/
“It’s never a good indication,” Riccio said.
“The catch will be which club can afford him next year.
“A lot of clubs will just make room, they’ll just make room for people like Payne Haas.
“We’re sitting on a landmine here where it’s going to explode post-season big time.”
Haas, meanwhile, opened up on his future and the fallout from a transfer request which saw the 22-year-old booed by his own fans.
“(The hostility) came with what happened that week. I understood why it happened and why the fans were like that,” Haas told AAP.
“I’m not angry with them, it is what it is and I’ve moved on.”
Haas said he was happy in Brisbane but reiterated his stance that he would hold off contract talks until the end of the season.
“I’m happy here. We’ll speak about (contract) stuff at the end of the year but I love Brisbane,” Haas said.
“I always say to everyone that I love the club and the boys.”
“I’m happy here. I’m a real family man, I’m a mum and dad’s boy,” Haas added.
“My preference is to stay, I will say that, but at the end of the day things happen in rugby league.”
Sitting in sixth place on the ladder and a finals spot all but locked in Haas was adamant that wherever the Broncos finish won’t have an influence on his final decision.
“People think I’m distracted by (the looming decision), but I’m not thinking about it now. I’m just wanting to play finals.”
