High Point used control of possession to hold onto a 1-0 victory over UNC Wilmington last Saturday night. The lone Panther goal came from Alex Abril, who found the net off of the assist from Tony Pineda, in the 41st minute of play.
About the Blue Devils
Duke was tabbed as the No. 12 team in the nation, according to the United Soccer Coaches preseason rankings, which is the highest preseason ranking for the Blue Devils since the 2019 season. Duke has played one exhibition match ahead of Tuesday night’s contest, a 1-1 draw with South Carolina.
Trent Named Preseason Keeper of the Year
Holden Trent was voted the Big South’s Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year after finishing last season with the league’s best save percentage (.736). Trent allowed just 19 goals while recording 53 saves.

HPU was picked second in the Big South Preseason Coaches’ poll behind 2021 tournament champion, Campbell. The Panthers received one first place vote in the poll behind the Camels’ eight.

The 2022 roster features the 12-member, No. 17 recruiting class in the nation. The class features four transfers in Noah Holmes (Liberty), Kaya Ignacio (Virginia), Holland Rula (Wake Forest), and Tony Pineda (West Virginia), as well as freshmen Jefferson Amaya, Caleb Britt, Matt Brucker, Josh Caron, Nick Herb, William Kenne, Brendan Krueger, and Beau Yantz.
