So too has my lord and saviour, Katy Perry. At a Vegas after party last week, dancing to In da Getto by J. Balvin and Skrillex, Katy Perry was passed a pizza box – so she fed her fans, tossing slices to the crowd. Twitter, appropriately, lost its mind.
While Taylor Swift watches the planet burn, Perry is on the ground – multiplying loaves of bread. As a pop star, Perry has always been the realest of them all; in her pop-technicolour world, there is no fakery. Amid the Teenage Dream era, Perry was a cultural monolith – KatyCats reigned supreme, and the Teenage Dream music video had better CGI than almost anything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Perry made sense to me after watching her 2012 ‘documentary/musical’: Katy Perry: Part of Me, a film that crosses my mind two-three times every day. Netflix music bios tend to exist solely as slick PR exercises. But, BUT, in the scene where Perry’s ex-husband Russell Brand sends her a text (A TEXT) to break up with her moments before she goes on stage – whereupon she wipes away her tears, rises through the stage, and launches into her first verse is, say it with me, absolutely iconic. I feel like Perry every time I wipe away tears on arrival to dinner plans I never intended to execute.
And Pizzagate (not that one), is not the first time Katy Perry ate – remember when she went as a hamburger to the Met Gala? Remember Perry’s cringe, meme-spawning dance with Migos on SNL? Or the soul-crushing sight of her Left Shark dance moves at the Super Bowl?
Perry perplexes people – this is intrinsic to her appeal. I like to think she’s in on the joke (herself), and that she sees how camp her extravagant Las Vegas residency is – one whose stage design is best summed up as Barbarella kidnapping some Minions and visiting the Wonka factory. But make it sexy.
It’s time to accept that I am a KatyCat. And if you’ve ever felt like a plastic bag, floating in the wind – well, sorry, but so are you.

The Oscar-nominated, 25-year-old Call Me By Your Name star dropped the trailer this week for Bones and All, his second collaboration with director Luca Guadagnino, about two young cannibal lovers on a road trip across America.
On the same day, the savvy folks at Discovery+ released the trailer for their House of Hammer documentary, with victims speaking out of their abuse at the hands of Armie Hammer, Chalamet’s disgraced former co-star, and now rumoured condo salesman in the Cayman Islands.
‘Scandal’ and ‘abuses’ don’t go all the way to describe the truly unhinged admissions by Hammer that he is “100 per cent a cannibal.” The co-star connection is bizarre, and though Hammer isn’t involved in Guadagnino’s film, many have read Bones and All’s cannibal plotline as a tacit endorsement of Hammer’s preferences.

Tommy Lee of Motley Crue shared an intimate picture to his 1.4 million Instagram followers.
It was the nude that launched a thousand think pieces (this being the defining one).
With a selfie that stopped at his face, 59-year-old rocker Tommy Lee posted a full-frontal nude to his 1.4 million Instagram followers at 3am Thursday in the US, captioned “Ooooopppsss.” By 8am AInstagram had taken the pic down – but it stayed up for several hours for the world to see and screenshot.
Social media commentators noted the double standard which allows Tommy Lee to post unfiltered, but leaves ‘free the nipple’ campaigners, plus-sized models, and LGBTQ+ art left on read – often censored for posting far less explicit material.
The app will remove Britney’s triptychs of artfully composed nudes in seconds, and doesn’t fail to censor breastfeeding, or nude Renaissance portraits, but inexplicably Tommy Lee, perhaps in a bid to extend the furore lasting since Hulu’s Tommy & Pam series, was allowed to leave a lasting mark. Perhaps Lee’s stunt was to commemorate the anniversary of his first nude leak, nearly 30 years ago.
One Twitter user commented: “Girls can’t post photos with cleavage on Instagram without it being taken down but Tommy Lee can post THAT. nah.”
Grinder even dropped a comment, noting: “Wrong app, babe.”
Yet, there’s a sharp contrast in how social media reacted to Kourtney Kardashian’s recent semi-nude image versus Lee’s full frontal. When Kardashian posted to promote her fitness app, trolls flooding her feed with judgments on how such nudity was unacceptable from a mother – Tommy Lee is a father of two, and his comments were full of fans and brand accounts laughing it off.
Since posting, Tommy Lee has gained over 200,000 followers. In rock, as in life, sex always sells.
