A nationwide Status Orange thunderstorm warning is due to lapse at 9am this morning, while a localised warning for thunderstorms in Munster and the southeast is to remain in effect until 4pm.
Met Éireann issued a Status Orange warning for thunderstorm activity at the weekend, warning of heavy downpours of rain and hail in some places.
The forecaster had also said that flooding was possible in areas where heavy downpours happen.
A separate Status Orange thunderstorm warning for Munster and counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford and Wicklow comes into effect when the national warning ends at 9am and will be in place until 4pm.
Showers will be intense through the afternoon with the risk of flooding, Met Éireann has said.

The Met Office has also issued a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning for counties Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry which is in place until midnight.
Met Éireann meteorologist Linda Hughes has said there has been very widespread thunderstorms overnight across the country.
Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, she said all provinces are seeing some scattered thunderstorms and quite slow-moving intense lightning and heavy rainfall as well.
Ms Hughes said that because the ground is so dry following the recent hot, dry spell any rain that does fall on it is not going to be absorbed.
She said instead it is going to run off the surface, and in a short amount of time can cause spot flooding, “so certainly through the rest of today there is a likelihood of some spot flooding”.
Yesterday Met Éireann forecaster Joanna Donnelly cautioned motorists that visibility will be hampered during the downpours.
“The visibility within these storms will reduce to nothing, so if you have to be driving and you come upon one of these storms, your visibility will be gone to nothing so you have to slow right down,” she said.
While temperatures today may reach 23 degrees Celsius in some places, Met Éireann has said that tomorrow will see a return to cooler conditions with just scattered light showers.
