Today is Monday August 8 and these are the main news of the day:
1.- In the industrial zone of Matanzas, Cuba, the fire continues to be active in a second fuel depot. The flames are very close to a third warehouse, which has not caught fire. The first warehouse caught fire on Friday, due to a lightning strike. One firefighter was killed and sixteen are missing.
2.- Hialeah police arrested a man in the case of a boy who took a gun and fired. According to the authorities, Orlando Guzmán Labrada’s son had access to the weapon and fired, grazing the minor’s face. The little boy was transported to the hospital. His father now faces charges of culpable negligence with a firearm.
3.- Moments of terror were experienced in Little Havana, where two families had to run for their lives, threatened by a devastating fire. Apparently, it all started in the air conditioning unit of apartment number 8, which was destroyed. The fire reached the external corridor and burned much of the ceiling and affected apartment number 7.
4.- Broward police found a body floating in a Tamarac canal. They confirmed that it was a woman, who has not been identified. The body was transferred to the Broward County morgue for her identification and for experts to determine her cause of death.
5.- They introduced the new Miami-Dade police officer. Her name is Amanda and she was adopted six months ago. She is a registered therapy dog and she wears her harness and her identification vest, as her mission is to visit schools, hospitals and nursing homes, to provide love and emotional support to those who need it most.
