Former President Álvaro Uribe remained silent throughout Sunday, August 7, the date on which the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, took office.
His position is not strange because for a couple of months he has been prudent and careful in his statements. In fact, when he met with the then president-elect, he was careful in the statements he gave to the media and said that he had created a direct channel of dialogue with Petro.
However, SEMANA learned of a document that will be made public this Monday in which the former president already draws a road map with which the Democratic Center will make a “constructive opposition” to the new president of Colombia.
These are some basic ideas with which, for now, the only party that will oppose the recently inaugurated President Gustavo Petro will navigate.
In the letter, Uribe refers to various specific issues with the red lines that they will defend from the Legislature, yes, “with arguments and respect for the new president.”
Precisely for this Monday, the Democratic Center is expected to make use of the right to reply to which they are entitled for having declared opposition. Senators Paloma Valencia, Paola Holguín and María Fernanda Cabal were appointed for this task.

ARMED FORCES
Security is a democratic value and a source of resources that requires the Armed Forces to deter and contain criminals. The Armed Forces, which have been democratic, have not had the privilege of impunity, they should not continue to be equal to those who committed crimes. The reform of the JEP is needed so that there is a guarantee of impartiality for the military.
EDUCATIONAL
We believe in pertinent, permanent and universal education. That the State, as the main financier, make it possible without educational monopolies, that public resources also support the private option for the lower-income sectors. That the family educate in values, that they are not confronted by official or union indoctrination. We believe in seed capital and credit for entrepreneurship that connects with education.
DRUG TRAFFICKING
Neither criminalization of drug use nor legalization. Drug trafficking is the enemy of the family, of the youth, of the Amazon jungle. Consumption idiotizes, takes away freedom. Legalization or permissiveness exacerbate the problems that become effective Criminal States that replace the Rule of Law. It is urgent to overcome the electoral interference of armed groups that to the detriment of democracy is done with social acceptance or resignation
TAXES AND DEMOCRATIZATION
The best taxes are those that are paid without fear of the amount and without mistrust of the destination. No expropriation, no distribution that makes the social unsustainable, nor developmentalism that ignores it. Trust and growth with inclusion.
PRIVATE ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Finally, it is not the State but the private company that makes a social function possible, for which trust is needed. With a vigorously growing private economy, it becomes possible and sustainable to overcome poverty and build equity.
STATE SIZE
Huge bureaucracies have been an obstacle to social equity. The social task of the State requires well-applied resources, bureaucratic austerity and the absence of corruption.
ENVIRONMENT
We assume the environmental defense of the planet as a duty above politics, as justice and security should be.
