President Gustavo Petro announced that the lawyer Guillermo Reyes will be the new Minister of Transport. On his Twitter account, the recently inaugurated Colombian president said that Reyes “will be at the forefront of the policy to integrate all the country’s territories and to revitalize rail and river transport to have a modern, efficient and democratic”.

This Rosarista lawyer held the Vice Ministry of the Interior and Justice between September 2006 and July 30, 2008. He is currently the main partner and founder of the law firm Reyes & González Abogados.
His law career has alternated with that of a writer and researcher, with which he has accumulated more than 10 books that cover electoral and law issues.

He graduated from the Universidad del Rosario de Colombia in 1989 and has a specialization in Tax Law from the same university. As part of the creation of the Seventh Ballot movement, was advisor to the Constituent Assembly of Colombia in 1991.

In August 1992 he was appointed Assistant Magistrate of the Constitutional Court of Colombia where he served until February 2000.
He was minister counselor of the Embassy of Colombia to the United Nations, a position in which he held the vice presidency of the Commission of Non-Governmental Organizations of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (Ecosoc), between 2001 and 2002, among other positions.
In September 2006 he took over as deputy minister of justice. In that position, he processed the Law that reformed national and international arbitration, as well as the Law on Alternative Mechanisms for Conflict Resolution.
In his professional career there are also other international positions within the public and academic sector, such as rector of the Universidad del Rosario and the Universidad del Sinú Bogotá extension.
