Like every year, the Antofagasta Symphony Orchestra does not forget the youngest and dedicates a concert to them on the occasion of the Month of the Child. An unmissable activity for the whole family to enjoy the live sound of symphonic music.
Presented by Escondida | BHP, this year the concert is dedicated to video game music. SYMPHONIC GAMER is the name of the event that can be attended free of charge on Thursday, August 11 with a general rehearsal for the community and on Friday, August 12 at 8:00 p.m. at the Municipal Theater of Antofagasta, prior registration from Wednesday 10 in www.culturaaantofagasta.cl
The young local director Marko Santelices Skorin will be in charge of the baton, in a review of original compositions for the Mario Bros, Donkey Kong and Megaman series of games, among others.
“Making this Symphonic Gamer means bringing other audiences to the theater, and that they can meet the orchestra, and relive the music through us,” explains Santelices. “That way they can learn about the instruments and, for example, if someone likes the music of Mario Bros, they can recognize that a song X in the game is played by the horn, and that’s how they learn.”
The musician acknowledges that video game composition is an area that has been growing in the last two decades: “A benchmark in this is the Japanese composer Koji Kondo. He’s written a lot for Nintendo, and most of the music we’ll do is written by him.” Regarding the general program, he adds that “we focus on three pillars of Nintendo: Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda and Donkey Kong”.
All the arrangements are by the Spaniard Andrés Soto, and the concert will have audiovisual support. “We are going to have a giant screen in the back, showing video game footage. It is to highlight that experience, since those who have played them will realize how the music fits as one plays”, describes Santelices.
This event will also be broadcast live on the digital platforms of Cultura Antofagasta on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube Live.
