The Confederation of Education Workers of the Argentine Republic (Ctera) convenes a national teacher strike next Wednesday, August 10. The measure is in protest against the “criminalization” of a trade unionist who caused fires in the Chubut Legislature.
The former secretary general of the Chubut Education Workers Association (Atech) James Goodman He was found guilty of “serious arson” during a demonstration in September 2019. The union was against the “judicialization of social protest and the condemnation of Santiago.”
In a statement, Ctera stated that it is “an armed cause, with illegal espionage, in the midst of a serious social situation in the province with wage arrears of two and three months, with a savage adjustment.”
On the other hand, from the union they pointed out that the incident took place “after a peaceful demonstration by the union and social sectors” when the teachers Jorgelina and María Cristina died in an accident after a mobilization.
In addition to “repudiating the ruling of the Justice”, Ctera demands the opening of the provincial parity, the “quarterly” and emergency increase to retired national teachers and the resolution of union conflicts in Mendoza, Santa Fe, San Luis and Corrientes .
