In the middle of his inaugural speech this Sunday, President Gustavo Petro made it clear that his government will create the Ministry of Equality and reiterated that who will be in charge of that dependency will be Vice President Francia Márquez.
The newly inaugurated president assured that his vice president will lead public policies for gender equality and stated that he wants Colombian women in his government to be able to walk calmly without fear of being attacked.
“I will govern with and for the women of Colombia. today, here, a parity government begins and with a Ministry of Equality. Finally! With our vice president and minister Francia Márquez we are going to work so that gender does not determine how much you earn or how you livePetro pointed out.
Along these lines, the president proposed that during his government he hopes that there will be a “real equality and security so that Colombian women can walk calmly and not fear for their lives.”
The Ministry of Equality does not yet exist, so will have to be processed by the government of Petro. Despite this, the Vice President Márquez is clear that when she will carry out policies of equality to the territories when it is created.
“Me I come from a historically forgotten and excluded regionso let’s create the Ministry of Equality and my task is precisely bring guarantee of rights to those excluded territories and marginalized,” the vice president recently said.
In any case, this is not the first time that a vice president has assumed ministerial functions in the presidential cabinet. In fact, the outgoing vice president, Marta Lucía Ramírez, ended the government as head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
